Parental Roles for All Policies

Parents, you are expected to read these guidelines, demonstrate them by your own example, and reinforce them with your own student(s). Your cooperation is a “must” in ensuring that the Ballet Lubbock School continues to make a positive difference for aspiring dancers. Please explain these policies to your student(s) in all situations where their behavior contradicts this code of conduct.

When you enroll your student(s), you are agreeing to abide by all of the policies below. Failure to read these policies does not exempt you or your student(s) from abiding by them.

Advancing Levels

It is common for students to remain in their ballet level for more than one year in order to advance successfully to the next level. This is a matter of physical development, not of potential.

Attendance: Overview

Attendance is mandatory.

There are no refunds for missed classes. Your child may make up a missed class within the same week it is missed only if you notify the Ballet Lubbock office and obtain permission of the Artistic Director. If your child cannot take class, then please bring him/her to observe. If your child is sick or contagious, then it is your responsibility to notify Ballet Lubbock immediately of any illness-related absence. Attendance is mandatory.

Besides the skill acquisition that develops from class to class, attendance impacts the entire group’s preparedness for performances and recitals. As with tuition payment, consistent attendance has a direct impact on whether a student is allowed to perform.

Attendance is mandatory.

Attendance: Class Observation

Classes are closed. You may observe your student during the last class of each month when the blinds are open. Students must be able to focus completely on the instruction being given by their teachers.

Attendance: Injury Prevention

Injury prevention is a priority at Ballet Lubbock. Therefore, the following policies have been put in place:

1. All students are advised to arrive at least 10 minutes early to stretch before class.

2. Students arriving 15 or more minutes late will be asked to observe class and not participate. This is not a penalty, it is a preventative step against developing physical injury that could preclude future dance studies. If your student is arriving late, then please have him/her apologize quietly to the instructor before observing class.

3. If your child has an injury precluding physical activity, then you must notify Ballet Lubbock immediately and in some cases, provide a doctor’s note to the office.

In extenuating circumstances where behavior issues still do not improve, your student may be dismissed from class for the duration of the semester or the school year.

Parking and Pick-Up

Parents must park and escort their student(s) to class. This is a safety measure. Do not park on the sidewalk. This creates a safety/visibility issue and essentially locks other, parked cars from being able to exit. Students of all levels must wait inside the Ballet Lubbock School to be picked up. Absolutely no students are permitted to wait outdoors for their parents or transportation. This is also a safety measure.

Children are strictly prohibited from playing outside or in the parking lot of the School facility; this is a necessary safety guideline. Cars parked illegally in handicapped spaces will be towed.

Personal Belongings

It is the responsibility of the student to collect all personal belongings from the building before departing. Under no circumstance will Ballet Lubbock be held liable for misplaced or stolen personal property. You are urged to check the corridor, the lobby, and the restroom for personal belongings each time you leave the School. A lost and found will be maintained by the office, but items will be discarded after going unclaimed for 3+ months.

The Playroom

Ballet Lubbock’s staff understand that many parents bring students straight from school, and may not have child care for students’ siblings. However, Ballet Lubbock is absolutely not responsible for attending to children in the playroom, nor is Ballet Lubbock responsible for any accident or injury in the playroom. Out of respect for other families, children should always pick up after themselves after using the playroom. If supervision in and care of the playroom become a liability, then it may be closed indefinitely.
