Ballet Lubbock Outreach: LISD Partnership
school

An annual partnership with Lubbock Independent School District (LISD) was formed in 2006, bringing more than 2,000 children—the entire LISD fourth grade—to a free performance of The Nutcracker.

In advance of the first-ever LISD performances, Ballet Lubbock sent Nutcracker books (with audio CDs) to each elementary school library.

Packets are distributed to each fourth grade teacher. These packets include a plot outline with discussion points, tie-ins between dance and traditional classroom subject areas, and fun facts about the performance that lay ahead.

In the weeks preceding our LISD/Nutcracker performances, Artistic Director Yvonne Racz makes personal visits to some of these schools, teaching basic ballet and preparing students for their ballet audience experience.

If you are a school teacher who would like to learn more about incorporating dance and ballet into your curriculum, then please contact Artistic Director Yvonne Racz.
